Panda at Ueno zoo shows sign of pregnancy

A female giant panda at Tokyo's Ueno Zoological Gardens is showing signs of being pregnant.

Officials at the zoo said mating between the panda, Shin Shin, and male panda Ri Ri was confirmed in March. Both pandas are 15 years old. They came to the zoo a decade ago.

Officials said they are closely monitoring Shin Shin, as there is a possibility the pregnancy could be false.

Shin Shin gave birth to a female cub four years ago, fathered by Ri Ri. The cub was later named Xiang Xiang, and has been popular among visitors.
