US, China hold video talks on economic ties

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He have held a virtual meeting on economic ties. Both sides agreed to keep the lines of communication open.

The Treasury Department says Yellen discussed the administration's plans to bolster the economic recovery in the US. She also stressed the importance of cooperation while frankly addressing issues of concern.

China's state-run Xinhua news agency says the two sides recognize the importance of their economic relations and expressed willingness to maintain communication.

Confrontations between Beijing and Washington have been deepening over issues including Taiwan and human rights.
