Tokyo's Harajuku district is famous around the world for its quirky fashions and trendy stores. Now, virtual visitors have been joining the fun.
The Virtual Harajuku app lets people stroll around and browse using avatars. They can snap up items to be delivered in the real world, as well as joining special events with celebrity guests.
A group called Future Design Shibuya launched the project with mobile carrier KDDI. It comes as the coronavirus pandemic forces people to spend more time at home.
The group's Osada Shinko says spots like Harajuku are important at times like these. She says she hopes people return to the real Harajuku once the pandemic subsides.
The app is available until this Monday.
