A boat carrying more than 160 people sank in a river in Nigeria on Wednesday, leaving at least one person dead and more than 140 missing.
AFP and other news outlets report that the boat split into two and sank in the Niger River in West Africa.
Twenty-two passengers were rescued.
BBC reports the boat was ferrying a number of women and children to northwestern Nigeria from the neighboring country of Niger.
AFP quotes local authorities as saying the boat was carrying more than double its passenger capacity.
Another boat capsized in Nigeria earlier this month, leaving 30 people dead.
