A Japanese fishing boat and a Russian vessel collided on Wednesday off the coast of Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost prefecture.
Japan's Coast Guard says the 9.7-ton Japanese boat, Daihachi Hokkoumaru, collided with the 662-ton Russian vessel, AMUR, in the Sea of Okhotsk about 23 kilometers northeast of Mombetsu Port at around 6 a.m., local time.
The incident was reported by the AMUR. Five of the Japanese boat's crew members were rescued by the crew of the AMUR. Three of them are reportedly unconscious.
The Coast Guard has dispatched a patrol ship to the scene.
