Tokyo to vaccinate police officers, firefighters

Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko says the Metropolitan Government plans to soon vaccinate police officers and firefighters against the coronavirus.

Koike made the remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide on Friday.

She said the inoculation of Metropolitan Police Department and the Tokyo Fire Department personnel will be carried out at the former site of the Tsukiji food market in central Tokyo.

She asked the central government for a sufficient supply of vaccines.

After the meeting, Koike told reporters that she hopes bookings for the inoculation will start by the end of this month.

The Tokyo governor also said that she and Suga agreed to cooperate for a safe and secure Olympic Games backed by thorough anti-coronavirus measures.

Asked if the Games can be held if vaccine rollouts are accelerated, Koike just replied that Tokyo officials have taken various kinds of measures and made lots of efforts to realize safe and secure Olympics, and that they will keep doings so.
