Israel approves ceasefire with Hamas

The Israeli government says it approved a ceasefire with the Palestinian militant group Hamas on Thursday night.

The government says the truce will take effect at 2 a.m. on Friday local time.

Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, issued a statement. It said the Palestinian resistance will commit itself to the deal as long as Israel is committed.

Hostilities between the two sides continued on Thursday.
There have been 232 deaths in Gaza, while 12 have died in Israel since the fighting began.
