Hitachi is reportedly negotiating to sell its metals unit to a group of US and Japanese investment funds.
Sources say the Japanese conglomerate is in talks with the group, which includes Bain Capital and Japan Industrial Partners, to sell Hitachi Metals. Hitachi holds a more than 50-percent stake in the subsidiary.
The conglomerate is overhauling its group business as it shifts toward information and digital technologies.
It announced last month it would acquire US software company GlobalLogic for 9.6 billion dollars.
