A pageant contestant from Myanmar has appealed for international support for the people who are suffering from the military crackdown in her country.
Yangon University student Han Lay fought back tears as she made the plea on Saturday at the Miss Grand International pageant in the Thai capital Bangkok.
Han Lay said that many people were dying in her country, Myanmar, while she was on the stage.
She said, "I want to say for here that, please help Myanmar. We need your urgent international help right now."
The audience responded to her remarks with loud applause.
Media in Myanmar report that 114 people died on Saturday, Armed Forces Day, when security forces opened fire on civilians protesting the February 1 coup.
