China says a group of international experts from the World Health Organization will arrive in the country on Thursday.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on Monday the two sides had agreed that the WHO team will conduct joint research with Chinese scientists on the origins of the coronavirus.
The WHO had hoped to dispatch the team earlier this month. But WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed disappointment last Tuesday after the team was not allowed to enter China.
The spokesperson did not disclose whether the WHO team will be quarantined, or give a detailed itinerary, but said China will work closely with the WHO and international experts.
He also said that the WHO will conduct similar investigations in other countries and regions.
By saying this, China is apparently trying to avoid giving the impression that the coronavirus originated in the country.
