JOC head calls for unity to hold Tokyo Games

Japanese Olympic Committee President Yamashita Yasuhiro is calling on his staff to do their best and work together to hold the Tokyo Games, which is scheduled to open in July.

Yamashita addressed his organizing staff on the first business day of the year for the JOC on Tuesday.

He spoke on the outlook for the Games, which were postponed one year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The JOC president said the Japanese government and the Olympics' host city of Tokyo are determined to hold a safe and secure games.

Yamashita also said he hopes that with the support of his staff, the performances of athletes will bring a ray of hope to people around the world who have endured the pandemic.
