Japan reports 3,158 new COVID-19 cases

Japanese officials had confirmed 3,158 new cases of the coronavirus, with 60 fatalities, as of 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.

This brings the total number of infections in the country to 245,924, including 712 on a cruise ship.

Health officials reported 816 new cases in Tokyo, 365 in Kanagawa Prefecture, and 253 in Osaka Prefecture.

The fatalities on Sunday included 12 in Hokkaido, eight in Hyogo Prefecture, seven in Osaka, and six in Aichi.

A total of 3,645 people, including 13 from the cruise ship, have died.

Health ministry officials say 714 patients are in serious condition.
