World COVID-19 cases top 83.7 million

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the world has surpassed 83.7 million.

Data compiled by Johns Hopkins University show global infections had reached 83,718,625 as of 18:00 UTC on Friday.

The global death toll was 1,823,154.

The United States has the largest number of infections at 20,007,149. India is second with 10,286,709 cases, followed by Brazil with 7,675,973, Russia at 3,153,960 and France at 2,677,871.

The highest number of deaths was recorded in the US at 346,408. Second was Brazil with 194,949, followed by India with 148,994, Mexico at 125,807 and Italy at 74,621.
