Darvish traded to San Diego Padres

In Major League Baseball, the San Diego Padres has acquired Japanese pitcher Darvish Yu in a trade with the Chicago Cubs.

Under the deal announced by the two teams on Tuesday, the Padres also acquired a catcher, and in exchange, the Cubs got pitcher Zack Davies and four others. Davies won seven games in the season.

Darvish this year became the first Japanese pitcher to receive the National League's title for most wins, with eight victories in the shortened 60-game season.

He also finished second in voting for the league's Cy Young Award.

Darvish has three years left on a six-year deal from 2018 with the Cubs.

But the two teams agreed to the seven-player deal involving Darvish as the Cubs are seeking to cut their payroll and the Padres are aggressively reinforcing the team.
