'Go To Travel' cancelation fee waiver extended

The Japan Tourism Agency has extended a period in which it will waive cancelation charges for reservations made through the "Go To Travel" program.

The agency said on Thursday that people who used the government's domestic travel subsidy initiative now have until Sunday to cancel their bookings without charges. The original deadline was on Thursday.

The agency said it decided that it needed to do more to make people aware of the campaign's suspension.

The government will halt the program nationwide between December 28 and January 11 to help stem the spread of the coronavirus.
