Apple unveils new 5G iPhones

US IT giant Apple has announced new iPhones with faster 5G communication technology. They are the company's first offerings to use next generation wireless networks.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 12 during an online event on Tuesday.

The company is launching four models that will support 5G. Prices start from 799 dollars for standard-size models. The first devices will be available later this month.

Apple also touted the phones' cameras, saying they enable sharper photographs and videos.

The company usually unveils new smartphone models in September. This year's announcement was likely delayed due to the pandemic.

5G phones are also available from rival firms including Sony, Google, Samsung Electrics and Huawei.

Manufacturers are betting that 5G models will reignite demand as smartphone shipments have been on the decline.
