A Harry Potter stage play is set to open in Tokyo in summer 2022.
"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" has been staged in London, New York and elsewhere, and won prestigious Tony Awards in the United States.
On Thursday, an official involved in the production and members of HoriPro, a Japanese firm in charge of Japanese version, announced the plan.
The play is set 19 years after the seventh novel of the Harry Potter book series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."
The story centers around grownup Harry and his youngest son. The author, J.K. Rowling, was involved in making the play.
The Japanese production is the second non-English version after one in German. The entire cast is expected to be Japanese.
Producer Sonia Friedman said Tokyo is a vibrant and cultural city. She added she believes the show will be celebrated by people in Japan not just for its story but also for its artistry and spectacular magic and illusions.
