Pakistan has condemned the recent burning of a Koran in Norway by a member of a right-wing group.
The Pakistani foreign ministry said in a statement on Saturday that it had summoned the Norwegian ambassador to convey the deep the concerns of Pakistan's government and people.
The statement also called on the Norwegian authorities to prevent such an incident from happening again.
The ministry said such actions hurt not only the sentiments of Pakistanis, but of Muslims around the world. It added that such actions cannot be justified in the name of free expression.
Pakistani media report that the holy book was burnt during an anti-Islam rally in the southern Norwegian city of Kristiansand earlier this month.
Media reports say another man jumped forward to try to stop the burning, and a scuffle ensued.
There have been no major protests in Pakistan over the incident so far. But many Pakistanis went online to praise the man who tried to stop the incident, calling him a hero.
