Emergency warnings lifted for Ehime, Kochi

The Meteorological Agency has lifted an emergency warning for extremely heavy rain in Kochi and Ehime prefectures in western Japan.

Weather officials say residents of these areas are at risk from flooding and mudslides.

Up to three times the average monthly rainfall has fallen so far in Gujo, Gifu Prefecture, Tomisato Village in Ehime Prefecture, Hiroshima City and Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture.

Weather officials say there is an imminent risk of a serious disaster on a scale that has not been seen for decades.
