From March 30th, 2020, the style for Japanese persons’ names will change on NHK WORLD-JAPAN’s English-language radio and television broadcasts as well as websites. In principle, the surname comes first, followed by the given name, in accordance with the practice used in the Japanese language. We will adopt this style in line with moves in Japan in general.
Please be aware of some exceptions. For example, names appearing in programs produced and aired before March 30th, 2020 will not always conform to the new style in the event of a repeat broadcast or on the content already uploaded on websites.
