Ginger Pork with Honey (Hachimitsu-iri shougayaki)
A surprisingly healthy ginger pork dish served with shredded cabbage. The addition of honey and stir-fried onions gives a nice hint of sweetness that goes extremely well with a bowl of hot rice!

Ingredients (Serves 2)
- 160 g pork leg (thinly sliced; lean)
- 1/2 onion (100 g)
- 60 g cabbage (shredded)
- 2 tbsp sake
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp honey
- 10 g ginger (grated)
Cut the pork into strips 5 cm wide. Thinly slice the onion and place it in a microwave-safe bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave (600 W) for about 3 minutes until softened.
Mix together the ingredients for the [Marinade].
Place the pork in a bowl with the [Marinade]. Massage the [Marinade] into the pork, then let rest at room temperature for 5 minutes.
Place a frying pan over medium heat. Add the pork and [Marinade] on one side, and add the onions on the other side. Cook over medium-high heat while separating the pork strips. Once the pork starts to change color, mix together with the onions and stir-fry until most of the liquid cooks off.
Plate up and serve with shredded cabbage.
