Speedy Hayashi Rice (Beef Stew Poured over Rice)
It looks like curry rice, but it's actually a beef stew poured over rice! This recipe is flavored with ketchup and soy sauce.

Rice & Noodles
Ingredients (Serves 2)
- 150 g thinly sliced beef (round or shoulder)
- 1/3 carrot
- 1/2 onion
- 300 g cooked rice
- 1 1/3 tbsp flour
- 100 ml ketchup
- 200 ml water
- 1 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
- A pinch of pepper
Cut the beef into 4 cm strips and lay them out. Peel the carrot and cut into small rangiri pieces. Sprinkle with water, place in a heat-resistant dish, cover with plastic wrap and microwave (600 W) for one minute. Cut the onion across the grain into 7 mm slices.
Melt 10 grams of butter in a frying pan, place the beef in the pan, make sure that the slices don't overlap, and fry both sides over medium heat till brown. Remove.
Add 10 grams of butter and stir-fry the onions over medium heat. When the onions are brown, return the beef and sprinkle with 1 1/3 tablespoons of flour. Mix thoroughly and stir-fry over low heat for one or two minutes.
Add 100 ml of ketchup, stir-fry briefly and add the carrots, 200 ml of water, 1 1/2 tablespoon of soy sauce and a pinch of pepper. Cover and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.
Plate the rice and pour the stew over it.
