Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • 1 slice beef sirloin (about 1.5 cm thick) (300 g)
  • A pinch of salt
  • A pinch of pepper
  • 1 Tsp vegetable oil
  • 4 shiitake mushrooms
  • 7 cm daikon radish (200 g)
  • A pinch of wasabi (or wasabi paste)

Japanese horseradish. Has a refreshing and hot pungent smell.

  • Soy sauce, as needed

Take the beef out of the fridge about 10 minutes before cooking and set aside at room temperature. Remove the shiitake stems and cut in half. Grate the daikon and drain lightly. Season both sides of the beef with salt and pepper.

Pour the vegetable oil into a frying pan and warm over medium heat. Add the beef and mushrooms and turn the heat up to high. Cook for about 1 minute, without moving items around too much. Reduce heat to medium and after about 30 seconds, flip over. Raise the heat to high and cook for another minute. Remove. Cook the mushrooms till golden on both sides.

Set the cooked beef aside for 5 minutes and cut into bite-size pieces.Arrange the beef and mushrooms on a plate and serve with grated daikon, wasabi and soy sauce.
