In New York, some 100 Arabs and Muslims staged a demonstration on Wednesday.
They marched through central Manhattan with placards urging an end to the fighting and demanding that Palestinians be freed from Israeli occupation. Participants called for an immediate halt to the air strikes and urged the US government to stop supporting Israel.
At one point the demonstrators were confronted by pro-Israelis, but there were no major incidents.
