Video footage of the self-proclaimed leader of Islamist militants in Iraq has been posted on the Internet.
The video, released Saturday online, allegedly shows the ruler of the Muslim community known as caliph. His name is Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and he is wanted by the US government for involvement in a number of militant attacks.
The video was reportedly shot on Friday at a mosque in Mosul. It shows Al-Baghdadi ordering all Muslims to obey him as the new leader of an Islamic state.
In June, his group declared the establishment of an Islamic state, which it claims includes parts of Iraq and Syria.
Local media quoted security sources as saying that Al-Baghdadi had been injured in a government air raid near the border with Syria.
Some security sources claim that the man in the video is an imposter. The on-camera speech is apparently seen as an attempt to encourage his supporters.
