Movement Makes Music

Nowadays using the internet, you can listen to music of any genre any time. But if you are one of those people who lack of practice or talent from making our own music, there's an app for that! Check out some amazing software that lets you channel the inner musical artist you never knew you had in our "App For That."

The software called "Kagura," developed by Shunsuke Nakamura, is a sort of AR musical instrument that allows the user to make music using gestures. All you need to use the application is a computer with an integrated or external video camera. First, you place icons on the screen then assign sounds for each one of them. The software comes with 300 different sounds, and you can set and adjust the rhythm and the measure length. Moving your hands over the various objects floating on the screen produces sounds corresponding to each element that work as buttons and sliders. A workshop using Kagura was held with a dance school in Fukuoka City where new software has stimulated the creativity of the students. With this app that that marries music and dance in a whole new way, we can express ourselves using more than just our fingers on a touchscreen.

Gentle on Your Skin... and Coral

Finally, we'll visit the island of Okinawa Prefecture to meet an entrepreneur with a new version of a familiar product in this "Special Report" segment. It's something most of us need and it will help us help the environment. This is a story about a woman trying to save one important member of the interconnected web of life.

While coral reefs make up just 0.1 percent of the earth's surface, they're home to some 90,000 species and have often been called the "rainforests of the ocean." Yet coral reefs around the world face of a threat; coral bleaching. Efforts to protect coral are gaining traction all over the world. One small example is "Coral Reef Safe Sunscreen," a new product made with natural ingredients that are gentle on the skin, and does not contain oxybenzone or other coral-damaging chemicals. It has an SPF of about 30. Along with its main ingredient, zinc oxide, which blocks UV rays, it also contains sunflower seed oil and other moisturizing, nature-derived substances. "If we each do what we can, then I think we can look forward to clean oceans and a beautiful earth," says the developer of this product, Yukino Goya, who's enjoying a rising wave of domestic and international orders for her sunscreen.
