Fishermen rescued after boat capsizes

A Japan Coast Guard ship has rescued seven fishermen after their boat capsized in the Pacific Ocean off northern Japan.

The crew of the vessel Dai-sanju-hachi Juneimaru were spotted by a Coast Guard airplane on Wednesday morning.

About two hours earlier, other fishing boats in the area had reported to the Karakuwa branch of the fisheries cooperative in Miyagi Prefecture, northeastern Japan, that they had lost contact with the ship.

Coast Guard officials say three Japanese and four Indonesian crewmembers were on board the 19 ton boat, which belongs to the Karakuwa branch.

They say the boat capsized about 110 kilometers south of the city of Kushiro on the northern main island of Hokkaido.
