US pop singer Lady Gaga has revealed she is battling a chronic illness. She plans to take a rest from stage performances after she completes her world tour later this year.
Lady Gaga tweeted on Wednesday that she has fibromyalgia, which can cause widespread pain across the body and muscle stiffness.
The cause of the illness is not known. But it can also trigger symptoms, including sleep disturbances and depression, which can deeply affect the patient's lifestyle.
Lady Gaga earlier announced she will take a rest from music after her current tour ends in mid-December.
But she had yet to specify her disorder, which forced her to take a sabbatical.
In her tweet, the singer expressed the wish to raise awareness and connect with people who have the disease.
Some 2 million people in Japan are estimated to suffer from fibromyalgia.
