Her innovative dishes and sweets are popular with people of all ages. She’s also known for presenting ideas that help spruce up everyday living, down to the selection of daily utensils. In high demand on television and in magazines, she’s also a prolific writer. In 2005, she won what has been called the “Oscars of cooking” with her English book Harumi’s Japanese Cooking, awarded Best Cookbook of the Year at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. It is now available in over a dozen countries throughout the world. In April 2013, she began presenting a cooking program featuring Japanese home-style cooking on NHK World titled Your Japanese Kitchen. A regular instructor on Today’s Menu on NHK ETV since April 2013.
