Suicide bomber targets NATO convoy in Kabul
A suicide bomber in Afghanistan targeted a NATO military convoy in the capital Kabul, killing 17 people.
Government officials say that a car loaded with explosives rammed into an armored personnel carrier on Saturday.
Reports indicate that the bomb killed 13 US military personnel, one Afghan police officer, and 3 civilians.
A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility, and said that they targeted the large vehicle carrying foreign troops.
In July, security authority was transferred from NATO forces to Afghanistan in 3 provinces and 4 cities. The transfer of security in additional areas was scheduled to be announced on Wednesday.
However, violence continues in the country. Three NATO service members were shot to death in the central province of Uruzgan on Saturday and woman detonated an explosive device in the eastern province of Kunar, injuring 2.
Observers say the frequent attacks may affect the new security handover plan.
