Mitsubishi Motors cuts sales due to Thai floods
Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors plans to cut projected worldwide sales for the current business year. This is a result of production in Thailand being stopped by flooding.
Mitsubishi Motors halted operations at its Thai plant, which assembles mostly passenger cars and pickup trucks, earlier this month when floods cut off the supply of auto parts from local producers.
Company officials say production may be halted through the end of next month, which would mean a decline in output by some 30,000 vehicles.
The automaker, also feeling the effects of the strengthening yen, decided to lower projected worldwide sales for the business year ending next March by about 40,000, revising the new total to 1.03 million vehicles.
All Japanese automakers, including Toyota and Honda, have halted production in Thailand, but Mitsubishi Motors is the first to change its sales estimates because of the work stoppage.
