Government draws up plan to aid flood-hit Thailand
The Japanese government has drawn up a plan to assist flood-hit Thailand.
A team of flood-control experts will be sent to the affected areas to help move floodwaters downstream.
The government will also offer free financial aid to the Thai government for equipment needed for restoration.
The plan includes measures to rebuild production facilities of Japanese-affiliated companies seriously affected by the flooding. The measures include loans from a semi-governmental financial institution.
The government says it will consider providing the Thai government with further aid for mid- to long-term restoration and reconstruction.
It says this is in return for the donations and other emergency supplies extended by Thailand after the earthquake and tsunami hit northeastern Japan in March.
