Sarkozy welcomes Qadhafi demise

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has welcomed the demise of former Libyan leader Muammar al-Qadhafi.

He expressed his hope for the creation of a new government.

He made the comment in a statement issued on Thursday. France was one of the leading players in the military campaign in Libya.

Sarkozy called Qadhafi's demise a milestone in the country's battle to free itself from more than 4 decades of dictatorship.

He said now is the time for reconciliation in unity and freedom in the nation.
