Anime fair held in China

Japanese animated films were shown in an event in China on Monday, aimed at promoting understanding of Japan among local people.

More than 300 people, including students studying anime creation at a local college, took part in the anime event in the inland city of Baoding, Hebei province.

Japan's Minister to China, Shigeo Yamada, told participants that he wants all Chinese to learn about Japan through Japanese video and anime.

The event included screenings of independent anime works that have become famous online and "Tsumiki no Ie", or "The House of Small Cubes," which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2009.

In a speech about Japanese animation, animator Tatsutoshi Nomura said that anime has no borders.

Nomura also said that he hopes anime will help deepen ties between Japan and China, as well as other countries around the world.

Students commented that they want to learn more about Japanese anime, or that they could feel the warmth of the people behind Japanese productions.
