Private donation for Japan-China friendship

An entrepreneur in Hong Kong has paid more than 15 million dollars to build exchange centers for promoting friendship between young people in China and Japan.

73-year-old businessman Cao Qiyong will build the centers using his own money. The planned facilities include dormitories, Japanese-style rooms with tatami mats, and libraries with books about Japan. Cao will establish the centers at five renowned universities in cities such as Beijing and Shanghai.

On Friday, the first meeting for the project was held in Shanghai.

Cao recalled that when he was young, he studied in Japan and had many friends there. He said he hopes the project will help the younger generation contribute to mutual understanding between the two countries.
