Canada, Mexico show interest in joining TPP

Canada and Mexico have expressed interest in joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade talks.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper told US President Barack Obama on Sunday that Canada wishes to join the TPP talks. Obama welcomed the move and said consultations with Canada will start soon.
Japan made a similar decision earlier.

The Office of US Trade Representative says Mexico has also shown interest in the trade liberalization talks.

A US government statement says the desire of the North American nations to join the TPP shows the broadening momentum of efforts toward economic integration across the Pacific.
